Cellar Spiders in Central Arkansas
Cellar spiders are delicate harmless arachnids with notably long, thin, slender legs. In their natural habitat, cellar spiders prefer the openings of caves, cliff crevices, and similar sheltered spots. Indoors, they favor damp cellars, basements, crawl spaces, garages, and secluded, dimly illuminated corners. Constructing untidy, irregular webs, they possess a heightened responsiveness to vibrations, swiftly seizing any unsuspecting prey entangled in their trap. Male and female cellar spiders can be observed year-round within climate-controlled homes and other structures.
Cellar Spider Behaviors, Threats, or Dangers
While cellar spiders do carry venom, they are not considered harmful. There is no historical record of them biting humans, thus posing no threat to health. However, they are deemed nuisance pests because of their propensity to produce extensive webs. Unlike many other spider species that recycle their webs, cellar spiders perpetually expand their webs, resulting in the accumulation of significant amounts of webbing that can be troublesome to remove and detract from the visual appeal of homes and businesses.
